Underweight women should gain 28 to 40 pounds. And overweight women may need to gain only 15 to 25 pounds during pregnancy.

In general you should gain about 2 to 4 pounds during the first three month you’re pregnant and 1 pound a week during the rest of your pregnancy. If you are expecting twins you should gain 35 to 45 pounds during your pregnancy. This would be an average of ½ pounds per week after the usual weight gain in the first three months.’’

Your task is eating healthy by following a well-balanced diet, and getting regular exercise. Some studies indicate that pregnant women who follow a healthy diet and get regular exercise when they are pregnant have an easier birth and postpartum recovery.

Throughout the period of pregnancy, make sure to consult your doctor regularly to get some good guidance and make your life easier. A doctor will tell you the healthy weight you should gain when you are pregnant.

During the first trimester, you might not get enough exercise, but when you enter the second-trimester, start including a simple workout into your morning routine so that you keep your body healthy.

  • Moisturise

Massaging topical creams or oils into your skin throughout pregnancy will also help you avoid stretch marks. Focus on the body areas that get stretch marks. Moisturizing creams with shea butter, vitamin E and aloe vera are the best for you, because they are effective.

Experts recommend starting using stretch marks cream or topical creams/oils as soon as possible. In case you have few stretch marks, but you don’t have any stretch mark cream, it’s better to buy a stretch mark as fast as possible, and apply the cream on your stretch marks and your other  body parts. 

  • Exfoliate

Don’t apply any creams or oils until you exfoliate stretch mark prone areas first. By doing this, you will remove any dead skin that gets in the way of creams or oils and prevent them from getting to the deeper level of skin.

Exfoliating will allow new skin cells to grow, which helps keep any stretch mark prone areas free of stretch marks. Exfoliate at least once a week in order to get the best results.
